Parent/Child Dedication

We believe that it is a joy and a privilege for each parent to lead their child into a loving relationship with Jesus Christ. A Parent/Child Dedication gives parents the opportunity to publicly make a promise to God that they will train their child in His ways. The biblical root of this type of dedication is found in 1 Samuel 1:27-28: “For this boy I prayed, and the Lord has given me my petition which I asked of Him. So I have also dedicated him to the Lord; as long as he lives, he is dedicated.”

It is important for parents to understand that child dedication is not a sacrament; it does not impart grace or salvation to a child. Salvation comes through Jesus Christ as each person recognizes their need to have their sins forgiven. Dedication is the parents’ recognition of a solemn responsibility to raise their child in such a way that the child develops a desire to know God personally.

This dedication will be held during our regular service times. If you are interested in participating, please download a copy of the information packet below and follow the instructions. (Since baptism at IHC is an option for anyone in 3rd grade or older, we suggest that Parent/Child Dedication be reserved for infants – 2nd grade children and their parents.)
