Hasn’t Science Disproved Christianity?
Sunday, May 24
*Note to leaders: This guide is designed to assist you and your group while growing in your relationship with Jesus together. As you prepare each week, feel free to prioritize questions or sections in this study guide, based on your group dynamic and needs.
Science and Religion are often presented as opposing points of view. In reality, we can learn much about God from both.
Growing up, what was your favorite science experiment/ project? (i.e. egg drop, volcano, seed planting, etc.)
Science vs. The Bible
Have someone read Psalm 111:1-10.
How have you seen science and religion pitted against each other? Why do you think our society has placed such a strong emphasis on science over faith?
What is your reaction to the statement that “The Bible is true but not all truth is in the Bible”? (Agree, disagree, make you uncomfortable, etc.) What specific examples can you think of to support your thoughts?
How have you seen the Bible used to support opinions that the Bible does not reference or speak into?
Christians hold to various viewpoints on many topics. What are some scientific views that you feel are appropriate for christians to hold? What scientific viewpoints do you think prevent someone from being a christian? Why?
Science And The Bible
Have someone read Romans 1:18-25.
Paul, in the book of Romans tells us that God has revealed Himself through creation. Give some examples of how the natural world points us toward God.
What does the worshiping of created things over the creator look like today?
Share how you believe a Christian can reconcile faith and science without sacrificing their convictions. What are some potential strengths or difficulties?
How can the integration of faith and science positively influence our church and culture?
What can you do this week to show love to someone with a differing scientific viewpoint than yourself? What ways can you seek to build bridges for faith rather than walls?
Thank you God for the way that You formed and created this world. Help us to seek to know You more and Your love for us. Help us to love and give grace to those who think differently from ourselves. Help us to know and love You more each day. Amen!
