*Note to leaders: This guide is designed to assist you and your group while growing in your relationship with Jesus together. As you prepare each week, feel free to prioritize questions or sections in this study guide, based on your group dynamic and needs.

Jesus offers a different way of viewing the world.

What is your reaction to Josh’s statement that, “it’s impossible for the media to hand you the news without handing you a worldview”?

The early followers of Jesus consisted of all different backgrounds and political systems. Their shared commitment and love for God created a harmonious unity.

Have someone read Acts 1:12-14.

Why do you think Jesus chose such different people to be the first leaders of the Christian faith?

How have you witnessed the benefit from collaboration involving people of different backgrounds, passions, gifting, and experiences?

Why are unity and diversity often presented as opposing concepts?

How does your love for Jesus drive and influence your love for other people?  What challenges do you encounter?

Within a politically charged society, how can Christians be perceived more as peacekeepers?

Have someone read Acts 2:29-41.

How does allegiance to Jesus as King oppose the acceptable modes of thinking presented by our society?

Looking at verse 38. Repenting means turning away from our sin while being baptized is a way of affirming our allegiance to God.  What are some other ways Christians can outwardly demonstrate their allegiance to Christ?

How can we affirm the good in the world, push back against the bad, and choose to forge a new way forward in the name of Jesus?

Have someone read Acts 2:42-47.

“That wouldn’t work today”, “That was just a one time thing”, “That was a special circumstance”, “That was a different time.” What other reasons do you hear from Christ followers about why they choose not to change their current lifestyle?

How does this example of infectious devotion to Christ from the early church inspire you to live differently?

What small step can you do to build and strengthen the unity between Christ followers? How can you show love and compassion to those who present themselves as immovable?

What can you do this week to better seek the desires of God over the desires the culture and media present to you? How will your allegiance to Christ influence your political worldview this week?

Thank you God for sending Jesus to die for our sins. Thank you that through Christ we are able to have unity with people who are very different than us. Please help us to show love and compassion to those we might not fully align with. Help us to find common ground in our allegiance to You. Help us to seek your will over the desires that our media and culture present to us. Amen!
